Registered Practical Nurse - Emergency Services

As a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN), you will adopt a patient- and family-focused approach to deliver comprehensive, high-quality, and safe care to patients, adhering to the standards set by the College of Nurses of Ontario and evidence-based nursing practices. Collaborating as a vital member of the interprofessional care team, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the health experience for patients and their families through every interaction, showcasing professionalism, embodying our Commitment to Caring, and upholding our core values of excellence, leadership, and empathy.

Your Contributions to Quality Care

  • Delivering culturally sensitive care to patients with complex care requirements, ensuring predictable outcomes and manageable responses.
  • Conducting patient assessments to identify changes in their condition and communicating these to the appropriate team members.
  • Administering and documenting therapeutic interventions and medications in accordance with established policies and standards.
  • Acting as an advocate for patients.
  • Engaging in continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives.

Essential Qualifications

  • Current Certificate of Registration in the General Class with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • If graduated prior to 1995, a Medication Administration Certificate from an accredited community college.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • Completion of Coronary Care Course 1, or a commitment to complete it within one year of hire.
  • Demonstrated clinical experience in patient-centered care, including strong skills in patient assessment, care planning, education, and documentation.

  • Understanding and adherence to patient and staff safety policies that promote a secure and inclusive environment.
  • Familiarity with the Regulated Health Professions Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, and the Standards of Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Practical Nurse Diploma from an accredited nursing program.
  • Membership in the Registered Practical Nurses' Association of Ontario (RPNAO).
  • At least one year of recent nursing experience as a Registered Practical Nurse in an acute care setting within the last three years.
  • One year of experience in Emergency or Telemetry care.
  • Two years of experience in Medicine/Surgical nursing.
  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) certification.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) course preferred, or similar training.
  • Experience with electronic medical records.
  • Prior experience within the Registered Practical Nurse classification.
