Position Overview

The Faculty of Medicine is dedicated to promoting excellence in healthcare through its educational and research initiatives, while actively engaging with the community. Under the supervision of the Director of Communications, the Communications Specialist will address the intricate communication requirements of the Faculty of Medicine, focusing on both internal and external messaging. This role encompasses managing the medical school's digital footprint across various social media platforms and blogs, as well as overseeing the transition to a new web content management system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the monthly "Dean's Blog" to keep faculty, students, and staff updated on significant events and accomplishments within the Faculty of Medicine.
  • Proactively manage the Faculty of Medicine's social media presence and draft letters of endorsement for various internal and external recognitions.
  • Research, compose, and curate content for Dal Med News, Dal News, and DalDocs (the alumni magazine) to align with the strategic objectives of the Faculty of Medicine.
  • Lead the ongoing migration of web content from Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Classic to Touch UI, collaborating with Faculty of Medicine stakeholders to redevelop and revise web content as necessary.
  • Provide strategic guidance and support to stakeholders regarding content strategy for Faculty of Medicine web properties (departments, divisions, units, etc.) as outlined by the Director of Communications.
  • Coordinate the planning, organization, and promotion of special events, including public receptions, meetings, ceremonies, and site visits, with assistance from the Administrative Assistant.

Additional Information

The successful candidate will have the opportunity for hybrid work arrangements (a combination of on-campus and remote work) as mutually agreed upon based on operational needs and university policies.

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field, along with a minimum of three years of relevant communications experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Demonstrated ability to write effectively for diverse audiences across various channels and formats (including letters of support, news articles, social media, etc.).
  • Experience in content generation within a post-secondary education, healthcare, or governmental context.
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing communication strategies and collaborating effectively with internal and external partners.
  • Ability to adapt communication styles to meet the diverse needs of various business objectives.
  • Capacity to work independently with a proactive approach to communications.
