Opportunity Overview:
Under the guidance of the Health Information Management Registration, Switchboard, and Patient Information Supervisor, the role of Administrative Support / Switchboard Operator encompasses essential telecommunication duties that facilitate patient, public, and staff access to services across Alberta Health Services. The switchboard team utilizes a variety of technologies, including a computerized multiline call system and nurse call responder, to deliver this critical service. This position also entails various clerical responsibilities as assigned. The successful candidate will manage hospital emergency code announcements and connect on-call physicians, providers, and general inquiries. This dynamic role seeks an individual who can demonstrate sound judgment and initiative while working independently, maintaining confidentiality, and ensuring accuracy. Role Description:
As an Administrative Support III, you will be expected to possess advanced administrative or specialized skills and knowledge to effectively support intricate procedures, practices, and initiatives within a department or program.
Required Qualifications:Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent is necessary.
Additional Required Qualifications:A medical office assistant or unit clerk program is mandatory, although other relevant post-secondary education may be taken into account. A medical terminology certificate is required (or to be completed within 3 months of hire). A medical terminology test will be conducted (with a passing mark of 60%). Keyboarding skills of 40 wpm (corrected for errors) are required, and a typing test will be administered. A proven track record of maintaining privacy with sensitive information and situations is essential. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary, along with the ability to interact positively and respectfully. The ability to work effectively in a team environment and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced setting is crucial.
Preferred Qualifications:Preference will be granted to internal candidates with qualifications in Health Information Management, particularly those with experience in Registration, Switchboard, and Patient Information, as well as Connect Care training specific to the role. Experience with multiline switchboard operations is also preferred.
