Position Overview
Reporting to the Team Leader of the ILI Review team within the Pipeline Integrity Corrosion and SCC Threat Management Department, this role encompasses responsibilities as an Engineer/Technologist engaged in diverse pipeline integrity initiatives and projects related to the company’s natural gas pipeline systems across North America.
The Pipeline Integrity Engineer/Technologist plays a crucial role in the planning of pipeline integrity programs, conducting investigations into pipeline failures, managing excavation initiatives, developing procedural guidelines, performing analyses, and contributing to the establishment of engineering standards and protocols pertinent to pipeline integrity projects.
Key Responsibilities
Analyze and assess pipeline defects through various methodologies including direct assessment, in-line inspection, and pressure testing to recommend corrective actions. Conduct advanced quantitative risk assessments focusing on failure likelihood, consequence modeling, and corrosion progression. Execute Engineering Assessments to ensure the ongoing safe operation of pipeline systems. Develop and oversee excavation initiatives. Provide technical guidance to internal stakeholders as necessary. Liaise with regulatory bodies and assist with audit processes as needed. Support internal responses to pipeline incidents and root cause analyses. Aid in project development, strategic planning, and budget management. Undertake additional responsibilities as required.Required Qualifications
Minimum of 4 years of relevant industry experience. Bachelor’s degree in a related Engineering discipline from an accredited institution. Candidates with significant relevant experience may be considered for the Technologist career path even without an Engineering degree. For candidates in Canada: Must be registered or eligible for registration with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing. Strong interpersonal skills are essential, as this role involves collaboration with a diverse project team, including Field Operations, Reliability Engineers, and external contractors. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with in-line inspection technologies (MFL and/or EMAT) and pipeline condition assessments is advantageous. Knowledge of relevant regulations and industry standards, including 49 CFR Part 192 and 49 CFR Part 195, is beneficial. Possession of a P.E. License is preferred. Previous experience (minimum 4 years) in the design, operation, and construction of high-pressure natural gas or liquid transmission pipelines is preferred. Valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required. Successful completion of a pre-employment medical evaluation, including drug and alcohol testing, is necessary. Willingness to travel for temporary assignments, meetings, or training, which may involve overnight stays.Driving a vehicle is a fundamental aspect of this position. Following a conditional offer of employment, the company will review the driving records of any applicant for whom driving is a key job function.
