Position Overview:

This involves the development and governance of standards, specifications, and procedures. TSU collaborates with other Service Units to align with business objectives and operational needs.

The TSU is currently seeking an Engineer in Training to join the Pipeline Integrity Management team. On behalf of Pembina's Business Units, TSU oversees a comprehensive integrity management program, which encompasses facility integrity, pipeline integrity, technical services, geotechnical assessments, Project Management Office (PMO) functions, and Safety Security and Emergency Response protocols.

As a vital member of the team, the Engineer in Training will assist in maintaining effective pipeline integrity management practices by conducting technical analyses, compiling technical data, and preparing engineering assessments for the integrity management program. A key aspect of this role involves collaboration with the pipeline integrity team, operations, project teams, business development, internal audit teams, and regulatory agencies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Promote Pembina's safety culture of 'Zero by Choice' and adhere to the 'Life Saving Rules'.
  • Conduct engineering assessments to support modifications in pipeline service conditions (e.g., pressure increases, conversions, class changes).
  • Facilitate operational changes through Management of Change (MOC) processes and engage with all stakeholders, including regulatory bodies.
  • Perform pipeline defect assessments based on inspection data to inform engineering recommendations.
  • Review mitigation programs, including historical repairs, cathodic protection, and internal corrosion strategies to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Analyze annual risk assessment results and compile additional data to enhance assessments.
  • Organize and lead annual integrity review meetings by system.
  • Coordinate the preparation of annual budgets and long-range plans for pipeline systems and business units.
  • Create reports and analyses based on system-specific threat management.
  • Support mitigation program activities such as corrosion control, geohazard management, and damage prevention initiatives.
  • Establish relationships with Pipeline Integrity and Operations personnel, as well as various integrity vendors and consultants.
  • Prepare and deliver pipeline integrity presentations and documentation summaries to business units and external stakeholders as needed.
  • Evaluate third-party crossing requests and provide necessary support.
  • Maintain up-to-date records and metrics for program activities.
  • Provide integrity data analysis and support for projects across the organization.
  • Facilitate the compilation of integrity data and records for regulatory audits.
  • Coordinate the resolution of audit findings and reports.
  • Contribute to an equitable, inclusive, and diverse workplace.
Qualifications:
  • Registered Engineer in Training (EIT) with APEGA (or eligible for registration).
  • 1-4 years of relevant experience in pipeline integrity.
  • Familiarity with industry best practices, codes, standards, and regulations in Canada and the USA, such as CSA Z662, CFR 192, CFR 195.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to derive conclusions from relevant data.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Knowledge of threat assessments, risk assessments, and monitoring and mitigation strategies for pipelines.
  • Understanding of pipeline defect assessment, evaluation, and repair methodologies.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently under appropriate guidance and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel to Pembina's pipeline asset locations (approximately 10%).
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license.

This position is classified as 'Safety Sensitive' and will require Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Testing, including testing for marijuana metabolites. A Driver's Abstract may also be required.
