POSITION SUMMARY

Thompson Rivers University is seeking a qualified sessional faculty member to develop educational materials and deliver lectures for a multi-level Adult Basic Education (ABE) English course, specifically ENGL 0500 and ENGL 0600.

COURSE OVERVIEW

ENGL ABE - Advanced: This course focuses on fundamental writing skills, encompassing essential elements such as mechanics, sentence structure, grammar, and composition. It emphasizes major writing forms including description, narration, and exposition.

ENGL ABE - Provincial: This course is designed to meet Provincial Level (Grade 12 equivalency) standards, equipping students with the necessary skills for academic writing. It fosters the enhancement of writing and critical thinking abilities initiated in prior courses, utilizing various rhetorical frameworks for essay construction. A critical examination of selected prose and poetry is also included.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
  • A degree in a pertinent field with coursework related to the subject matter.
  • A valid Teaching Certificate, Instructor's Diploma, or a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience along with a demonstrated commitment to the scholarship of teaching and learning.
  • Proven experience in teaching students from diverse educational, social, and economic backgrounds, particularly those who may have faced challenges in previous educational settings.
  • Preferred skills in fostering intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect (TRC CA 63).
  • Experience in integrating Indigenous knowledge and pedagogical methods (TRC CA 62) is preferred.
  • A record of teaching excellence, including the development of culturally relevant curricula (TRC CA 10) is preferred.
