Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of three years of relevant and recent work experience.
  • Experience in a post-secondary educational setting.

Responsibilities:

As a member of the Student Services Department and reporting to the Head of Counselling Services, the Counsellor will provide short-term career and personal counselling to students, ensuring that the College meets or exceeds its objectives for student success and retention. This will involve supporting students in their career and educational journeys, fostering resilience, and connecting them with community and provincial resources.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Guide students through the career planning process via individual counselling, workshops, resource development, and other services.
  • Administer and interpret career and wellbeing assessment tools.
  • Offer short-term personal counselling to students, ensuring timely referrals to community agencies and services.
  • Participate as a key member of the College's emergency preparedness, threat assessment, and crisis response teams, providing consultation, triage, and referrals.
  • Promote counselling services through the design, delivery, and evaluation of workshops, lectures, and presentations that foster wellbeing and resilience.
  • Develop transition and wellbeing resources for students and establish networks with community and provincial agencies.
  • Facilitate connections to campus and community resources for students in crisis.
  • Establish and lead student mentor peer groups and train peer coaches to provide additional support.
  • Provide resources to support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within the College.

This position is part of a unionized environment, with employment terms governed by the NBUPPE - Administrative and Program Support Services, Education Consultation and Development, and Information Technology Collective Agreement.
