The Role


BGC is seeking a student intern for our advanced soil and rock testing facility in Fredericton, New Brunswick (). BGCs laboratory is a state-of-the-art facility which specializes in strength, compressibility and permeability testing of soil, and strength testing of rock. Our testing equipment includes cyclic dynamic simple shear, servo-controlled fully-automated triaxial and automated oedometer systems.

   

Responsibilities


  • Geotechnical Laboratory testing duties
    • Index testing of soil and rock
    • Assisting with advanced testing of soil and rocks
  • Manage and maintain the laboratory equipment and facilities
  • Manage the execution of laboratory testing, supporting the completion of multiple lab tests that are being completed in parallel for different projects
  • Prepare laboratory reports
  • May participate in field programs involved with collection of samples for laboratory testing


Required Education, Experience & Competencies


  • Minimum of 2 years of coursework completed toward a Civil or Geological Engineering degree, with an interest in geotechnical engineering.
  • Experience with index testing of soils and rock is considered an asset.
  • Skill and practical experience with using power tools, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical circuits is an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communications skills.

 

Duration


  • 4 month co-op position starting September 2024.

   

Position Requirements


Drug & Alcohol Testing

To ensure we meet our clients compliance requirements and our workplace health and safety commitments, BGC has a drug and alcohol policy that applies to this position.  The policy states that an employee may be required to take a drug and alcohol test prior to engaging in field work. This testing could be requested within an employees first week or in the future, as required. It is important to note that some clients also require random drug and alcohol testing, and/or testing in the event of a health and safety accident or incident.

 

Drivers License

BGC requires that employees have a valid driver's license, and that employees can drive a field pickup truck.  Upon hiring, BGC will require a drivers abstract to allow for a safety review of your driving history.


Travel and Vaccination
