Cardiac Intensive Care Unit Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Royal Columbian Hospital. As a key member of our interprofessional care team, you will provide direct patient care, assess patient needs, and develop and implement individualized care plans.
Responsibilities- Conduct thorough patient assessments, collect data from various sources, and make informed nursing diagnoses.
- Collaborate with patients, families, and caregivers to develop and implement care plans, promoting patient autonomy and dignity.
- Participate in the care and discharge planning process, ensuring effective care plan implementation and coordination with the interprofessional care team.
- Coordinate nursing care, prioritize tasks, and delegate responsibilities to support staff, ensuring seamless care delivery.
- Collaborate with the interprofessional care team to identify and resolve issues, adjust care plans as needed, and address changes in patient condition.
- Teach patients and families about illness prevention, health restoration, and health maintenance, promoting self-care and discharge planning.
- Document assessments, nursing diagnoses, interventions, patient responses, outcomes, and referrals according to practice standards and Fraser Health procedures.
- Participate in nursing committees, care conferences, and councils as assigned or agreed upon with the Manager.
- Contribute to research and quality improvement activities by identifying patient care issues, collecting data, and recommending corrective actions and changes to practices, procedures, or protocols.
- Participate in in-services and educational programs, maintaining current clinical competence and knowledge within the area of practice.
- Act as a preceptor or mentor to new nursing staff and students, sharing knowledge and demonstrating care activities.
- Provide feedback to the Manager or delegate regarding the effectiveness of patient care programs, policy, and clinical decision support tools.
To be successful in this role, you will require:
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Completion of applicable post-graduate coursework or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).
