Water Operator II (REPOST)

(Regular Full Time – 40 hours per week)

The City of White Rock is a vibrant, coastal community known for its pleasant climate and welcoming atmosphere. The Engineering & Municipal Operations Department, specifically the Water Treatment Division, is in search of a dedicated individual with a strong work ethic and a commitment to safety to fill the role of Water Operator II.

As a vital member of the Water Treatment team, the Water Operator II will engage in a variety of field and technical tasks essential for the safe and effective management of the water treatment plant systems and infrastructure. This role is crucial in ensuring a reliable supply of safe drinking water for public consumption and firefighting purposes. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting water quality assessments, sampling, and laboratory analyses.
  • Monitoring processes, evaluating performance, and managing residuals.
  • Executing equipment isolations and shutdowns as necessary.
  • Operating SCADA systems to track system data and trends.
  • Responding to emergency alarms and public inquiries regarding water services.

Key Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by relevant technical courses and experience in water treatment systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • EOCP Water Treatment Level II certification.
  • EOCP Water Distribution Level I certification.
  • In-depth knowledge of maintenance, repair, and installation techniques for water meters, valves, and related equipment.
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and potential hazards associated with the work.
  • Familiarity with water treatment and distribution systems.
  • Proficient in SCADA networks and capable of utilizing SCADA for operational monitoring.
  • Ability to troubleshoot routine operational issues and provide effective solutions.
  • Competence in performing skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to waterworks maintenance.
  • Capacity to carry out all maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting duties with minimal oversight.
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining accurate records related to job functions.
  • Ability to foster positive working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment or independently, always prioritizing safety.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 BC driver's license.
