The City of White Rock is a vibrant, coastal community with a population of 22,000 residents, celebrated for its pleasant climate, beautiful beach, historic pier, charming dining options, and strong community spirit.
The Engineering & Municipal Operations Department, specifically the Water Treatment Division, is in search of a dedicated individual with a strong work ethic and a commitment to safety to fill the role of Water Operator II. This position is integral to the Water Treatment team, responsible for executing a variety of field and technical tasks associated with the safe and effective maintenance and operation of water treatment plant systems and infrastructure. The goal is to ensure a reliable supply of safe drinking water for consumption and firefighting purposes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting water quality assessments, sampling, and laboratory analyses.
- Monitoring processes, evaluating performance, and managing residuals.
- Performing equipment isolations and shutdowns as necessary.
- Assisting in the operation of SCADA systems to track operational data.
- Maintaining accurate operating records and identifying trends.
- Responding to emergency alarms and public inquiries regarding water services.
Qualifications:
- Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by relevant technical courses and some experience in water treatment systems, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- EOCP Water Treatment Level II certification.
- EOCP Water Distribution Level I certification.
- Comprehensive knowledge of methods, practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance, repair, and installation of water meters, valves, and related equipment.
- In-depth understanding of safety precautions and hazards associated with the work.
- Familiarity with water treatment and distribution systems.
- Proficient in SCADA networks and capable of utilizing SCADA for monitoring operational data.
- Ability to troubleshoot routine operational issues and provide relevant support.
- Skilled in performing a range of tasks related to the maintenance, repair, and installation of waterworks fittings and services.
- Capable of executing all servicing, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting duties with minimal supervision.
- Able to assist in the inspection, maintenance, and operation of water treatment systems.
- Competent in preparing and maintaining work-related records.
- Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficient in using applicable software applications.
- Able to work collaboratively in a team or independently, always with a safety-first mindset.
- Possession of a valid Class 5 BC driver's license.
