Position Overview
The Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for comprehensive financial analysis and reporting, ensuring the department operates effectively and efficiently. This role is essential in fostering an environment that embodies SIIT's vision, mission, and mandate.

Key Responsibilities

External Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare, review, and submit various program reports, claims, and invoices.
  • Analyze program expenditures, revenue, and funding as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with funding agreements and institutional policies.
  • Assist in the preparation of funding submissions to provincial and federal agencies.
  • Compile data to meet regulatory and funding reporting requirements.
  • Support the annual external financial audit, preparing necessary reports.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information in accordance with policy and law.

Financial Analysis

  • Lead the quarterly financial outlook and forecasting processes.
  • Implement the annual financial planning process, including the operational budget.
  • Manage ongoing reporting against the annual plan, including variance analysis.
  • Analyze general ledger accounts and coordinate necessary follow-ups.
  • Respond to management requests for various analyses and reports.

Internal Reporting & Control

  • Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing and reporting processes.
  • Prepare journal entries and make adjustments to records as needed.
  • Address financial inquiries from both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Train SIIT budget managers on processes and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive process manual reflecting best practices.

Leadership & Development

  • Coach and develop team members to foster professional growth.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews with direct reports.
  • Manage scheduling of vacations and absences to maintain workflow.
  • Promote a positive, diverse, and inclusive work environment.
  • Assist in recruitment efforts to attract and retain top talent.

Qualifications
A degree in accounting, business, or a related field is required. A minimum of six years of relevant accounting and reporting experience is essential; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data management and analysis, is required. A professional accounting designation is an asset. Familiarity with First Nations cultures and organizations is also beneficial. Due to the nature of the role, a cleared criminal record check is required.
