The Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT), established in 1976, is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution dedicated to empowering individuals through education. With the authority to grant certificates and diplomas under provincial legislation, SIIT serves over 2400 students annually and supports more than 6000 clients through its Career Centres across the province. The Institute plays a crucial role in shaping Saskatchewan's economic landscape, and your expertise can significantly contribute to this mission.
Position Overview
The Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for conducting comprehensive financial analysis and reporting to ensure the effective operation of the department. This role promotes an environment that aligns with SIIT's vision, mission, and objectives.
Key Responsibilities
External Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare, review, and submit financial reports, claims, and invoices for various programs.
- Analyze program expenditures, revenue, and funding as required.
- Ensure compliance with funding agreements and institutional policies.
- Assist in the preparation of funding submissions to provincial and federal agencies.
- Compile necessary data to meet regulatory reporting requirements.
- Support the annual external financial audit process by preparing relevant reports.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information in accordance with policies.
Financial Analysis
- Lead the quarterly financial forecasting and outlook processes.
- Implement the annual financial planning process, including the operational budget.
- Manage ongoing reporting against the annual plan, including variance analysis.
- Analyze general ledger accounts and coordinate necessary follow-ups.
- Respond to management requests for various analyses and reports.
Internal Reporting & Control
- Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes.
- Prepare journal entries and make adjustments to financial records as needed.
- Address financial inquiries from both internal and external stakeholders.
- Train SIIT budget managers on financial processes and procedures.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive process manual for departmental efficiency.
Leadership & Development
- Coach and mentor team members to foster professional growth.
- Conduct regular performance reviews with direct reports.
- Manage scheduling for direct reports to maintain workflow and service levels.
- Promote a positive and inclusive work environment.
- Assist in the recruitment process to attract and retain top talent.
Qualifications
A degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required, along with a minimum of six years of relevant experience. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential, including skills in data management and presentation. A professional accounting designation is advantageous. Familiarity with First Nations cultures and organizations is a plus. This position requires a cleared criminal record check due to the handling of financial transactions.
