Job Title: Volunteer Coordinator

At The Salvation Army, we are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our team as a Volunteer Coordinator. This is a full-time position based on 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Represent and work within the mission, vision, and values of The Salvation Army and Ridge Meadows Ministries.
  • Demonstrate compassion, respect, and empathy in all interactions.
  • Support the efforts of clients, residents, volunteers, and coworkers.
  • Maintain polite and professional communication in person, via phone, email, video conferencing, and mail.
  • Greet visitors, answer telephone calls, and respond to inquiries.
  • Resolve routine inquiries and handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • Open and distribute incoming mail and process outgoing mail.
  • Use word processing to draft, type, and proofread routine documentation.
  • Schedule meetings, prepare agendas, and take minutes.
  • Photocopy and distribute materials, send and receive email and fax materials.
  • File documents electronically and manually.
  • Perform data entry and maintain databases.
  • Maintain and order office supplies and equipment.
  • Promote the Salvation Army Ridge Meadows Ministries Volunteer program and recruit volunteers.
  • Develop and maintain volunteer promotional materials and job descriptions.
  • Plan and host volunteer appreciation events.
  • Assist in the development of volunteer-related policies and procedures.
  • Respond to complaints and assist with performance management and conflict resolution.
  • Expand the Volunteer program and increase the number of volunteers serving in all departments.
  • Maintain the security of the Salvation Army Ridge Meadows Ministries volunteer database and personnel records.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  • Completed High School and minimum 1 year of related experience.
  • Strong service ethic and friendly disposition with the public.
  • Team-oriented and able to take initiative.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision in a fast-paced environment.
  • High standards of integrity, judgment, and confidentiality.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Adaptability to change and frequent interruptions.
  • Willingness to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Computer and word processing ability.
  • Food Safe, CPR, First Aid, and Non-Violent Crisis Training an asset.
  • Knowledge and interest in the programs and services of The Salvation Army an asset.
  • Successful obtainment of clearance through the Criminal Records Review Program.
Preferred Skills and Capabilities:
  • Preference to those with a current valid BC driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Preference to those who have related diploma courses in the field.
