POSITION OVERVIEW

Join the City of Maple Ridge as an Aquatic Programs Coordinator, where you will play a vital role in the planning, development, and execution of diverse aquatic programs and activities. This position encompasses the management of operations at both our indoor aquatic facility and seasonal outdoor pool, while actively promoting our extensive program offerings. You will have the opportunity to mentor our committed staff and volunteers, engage in recruitment and training initiatives, and ensure a seamless experience for all patrons. In the absence of a supervisor, you will take charge to maintain uninterrupted operations within established guidelines. This role requires a strong sense of independent judgment and action, while strictly adhering to established policies and procedures. Your contributions will be recognized and valued, with performance feedback aimed at enhancing the quality and effectiveness of our services.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of a post-secondary program in Recreation or a related field from a recognized institution, coupled with relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Comprehensive understanding of the principles, practices, objectives, and administration of aquatic recreation programs and events, particularly in lifeguarding and program instruction.
  • In-depth knowledge of lifesaving theory, lifeguarding techniques, first aid, and teaching methods related to aquatics.
  • Familiarity with programming requirements, aquatic standards, and leadership strategies.
  • Proficient understanding of the rules, regulations, procedures, and policies governing the work performed, as well as modern office methods and procedures.
  • Knowledge of pool chemistry, water filtration, chlorination, heating, and the operational and maintenance requirements of related equipment.
  • Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, evaluate, and promote programs, services, and events that meet the needs and interests of target populations.
  • Capacity to assist in the recruitment, training, evaluation, and supervision of staff and volunteers, and to guide contract service partners.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse range of internal and external contacts and the general public.
  • Initiative and judgment to work independently in the development, coordination, and implementation of programs and events.
  • Ability to act in a supervisory capacity during short absences, within defined limits.
  • Competence in preparing program budgets, monitoring expenditures and revenues, and conducting programs within budget allocations, along with evaluating and compiling reports.
  • Proficiency in preparing oral and written reports, maintaining correspondence, records, and promotional materials, and performing related clerical tasks as needed.

LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES

  • Class 5 Driver's Licence for the Province of British Columbia.
  • National Lifeguard Pool Certificate.
  • Lifesaving Instructor Certificate.
  • Swim Instructor Certificate.
  • Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Trainer Certificate or National Lifeguard Instructor Certificate.
  • Standard First Aid with CPR Level 'C'/AED Certificate.
  • Pool Operator Level 1 Certificate.

HOURS OF WORK

80 hours bi-weekly
