Shared Health is dedicated to the planning and coordination of patient-focused clinical and preventive health services throughout Manitoba. The organization also provides province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for health organizations in Manitoba.

Position Overview

Under the general oversight of the Patient Care Manager, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is tasked with delivering professional nursing services to assigned patients. This includes independent nursing care, administering prescribed medical treatments, collaborating with the healthcare team, and participating in the organization of patient care and discharge processes. The LPN demonstrates a commitment to the vision, values, goals, and objectives of the region/facility/unit.

Experience
  • Recent, relevant experience in the applicable clinical area may be required or preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing Education program is required.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Certification in IV Therapy; IV Medication Administration.
  • Must maintain and provide proof of active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba (CLPNM).
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training must comply with applicable policy requirements.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Knowledge of:
    • Standards of Practice for Licensed Practical Nurses as set by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba.
    • Code of Ethics for Licensed Practical Nurses established by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba.
    • Scope of practice as defined in the Licensed Practical Nurses Act.
    • Policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines relevant to the regional/facility/unit.
    • Nursing care knowledge pertinent to the clinical area.
    • Legislated acts including the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), and Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions).
    • Roles and responsibilities of healthcare team members.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with proficiency in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge of Indigenous customs, traditions, and values.
  • Proven critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Capability to prioritize care for individual patients or groups of patients.
  • Ability to delegate care appropriately and monitor the outcomes of delegated tasks.
  • Capacity to respond to multiple simultaneous demands.
  • Willingness to pursue self-development opportunities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within the healthcare team.

Physical Requirements
  • Good physical and mental health.
  • Moderate to heavy physical effort is required.
  • Rotating shifts and weekends may be necessary.
