Practical Nursing Specialist - Winnipeg Regional Health Authority

Position Overview: Under the general oversight of the Health Services Manager, the Practical Nursing Specialist is tasked with delivering professional nursing services to assigned patients. This includes independent nursing duties, administering prescribed medical treatments, collaborating with the healthcare team, and participating in the organization of patient care and discharge processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in accordance with established protocols.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers.
  • Engage in effective communication with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
  • Participate in the planning and coordination of patient care.
  • Document patient care activities accurately and timely.
Experience Requirements:
  • Recent experience in a relevant clinical setting is preferred.
Educational Qualifications:
  • Completion of an accredited Practical Nursing program is mandatory.
Licensure and Certification:
  • Certification in IV Therapy and IV Medication Administration is required.
  • Must maintain active registration with the relevant nursing regulatory body.
  • Current CPR certification is necessary as per organizational policy.
Skills and Competencies:
  • In-depth knowledge of nursing standards and ethical practices.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation and healthcare policies.
  • Strong oral and written communication abilities.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple patient care needs effectively.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and software applications.
Physical Demands:
  • Position requires moderate to heavy physical exertion.
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts and weekends may be necessary.
