Practical Nursing Specialist

Position Overview
Under the general supervision of the Patient Care Manager, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a crucial role in delivering professional nursing services to assigned patients. This includes providing independent nursing care, administering prescribed medical treatments, collaborating with the healthcare team, and participating in the coordination of patient care and discharge processes. The LPN is expected to uphold the vision, values, goals, and objectives of the Health Sciences Centre.
Experience
- Recent experience in the relevant clinical area is preferred.
Education
- Must be a graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing Education program.
Certification and Licensure
- Certification in IV Therapy and IV Medication Administration is required.
- Must maintain active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba (CLPNM).
- CPR training must comply with the Employer's policy.
Qualifications and Skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.
- Understanding of the Licensed Practical Nurses Act and relevant regional policies and procedures.
- Familiarity with nursing care principles applicable to the clinical area.
- Knowledge of the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS).
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Preference for candidates with proficiency in an Indigenous language and understanding of Indigenous customs and values.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to prioritize care for individual patients or groups.
- Capability to delegate care effectively and monitor the outcomes.
- Ability to manage multiple demands simultaneously.
- Commitment to self-development and professional growth.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a healthcare team.
- Adaptability to rapidly changing situations.
- Capacity to maintain focus amidst frequent interruptions.
- Ability to perform in a high-pressure and demanding environment.
- Proficient in using computers and various software applications, including word processing and spreadsheets.
Physical Requirements
- Moderate to heavy physical effort is necessary.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts and weekends as required.
