Practical Nursing SpecialistPosition Overview
Under the general supervision of the Health Services Manager, the Practical Nursing Specialist is tasked with delivering professional nursing services to assigned patients. This includes independent nursing practices, administering prescribed medical treatments, collaborating with the healthcare team, and participating in the organization of patient care and discharge processes. The role demands a commitment to the vision, values, goals, and objectives of the healthcare facility.
Experience- Recent experience in the relevant clinical area may be preferred.
- Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing program is required.
- Certification in IV Therapy and IV Medication Administration is necessary.
- Must maintain active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training must align with employer policies.
- Knowledge of:
- Standards of Practice for Licensed Practical Nurses.
- Code of Ethics for Licensed Practical Nurses.
- Scope of practice as outlined in the Licensed Practical Nurses Act.
- Facility policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Nursing care relevant to the clinical area.
- Legislated acts such as the Personal Health Information Act and others.
- Roles and responsibilities within the healthcare team.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Preference for candidates with proficiency in Indigenous languages and understanding of Indigenous customs.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Capability to prioritize care for individual or groups of patients.
- Ability to delegate care appropriately and monitor the outcomes.
- Capacity to manage multiple demands simultaneously.
- Commitment to self-development and continuous learning.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a healthcare team.
- Adaptability to changing situations.
- Ability to maintain focus amidst frequent interruptions.
- Capability to function effectively in a high-pressure environment.
- Proficiency in computer applications including word processing and spreadsheets.
- Moderate to heavy physical effort is necessary.
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts and weekends may be required.
