About EQ Building Performance
EQ is a collaborative consulting firm based in the Greater Toronto Area, dedicated to promoting the development of sustainable structures. We excel in providing commissioning, building performance simulation, and green building certification services, particularly within the multi-unit residential and mixed-use sectors.
We are looking for a Senior Energy Analyst to become a vital part of our GTA team. This role presents an exciting chance to engage with some of the most pioneering and eco-friendly building initiatives in the country.
The Senior Energy Analyst will focus on creating and evaluating comprehensive energy models for entire buildings, alongside conducting various energy assessments as necessary. The ideal candidate is proactive, inquisitive, and enthusiastic about expanding their knowledge regarding high-performance buildings in Canada.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Developing comprehensive energy simulations for new construction projects aimed at optimizing design, ensuring compliance with rating systems and energy codes, budgeting for energy use, and securing energy efficiency incentives.
- Preparing and reviewing high-quality energy modeling reports for clients and presenting findings effectively.
- Participating in project coordination meetings and collaborating with teams of building consultants, including mechanical and electrical engineers, architects, developers, and building owners, to gather necessary information.
- Conducting technical analyses and feasibility studies to support energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies.
- Performing internal quality compliance reviews of deliverables.
- Facilitating integrated design workshops to assess building enhancements in real-time.
- Analyzing post-construction energy consumption data and comparing it with predictive models.
- Executing any additional tasks as assigned to achieve company objectives.
- 2 to 6 years of experience in building energy simulation within a consulting environment.
- A Bachelor’s degree or diploma in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, architecture/building science, or a closely related discipline.
- Currently pursuing a professional designation such as P.Eng or CET. Interest in obtaining BEMP is considered an asset.
- LEED GA accreditation is advantageous (LEED AP BD+C preferred).
- Proficiency with energy simulation tools, especially Energy Plus/Open Studio and eQuest. Experience with energy audits and Retscreen software is a plus.
- Familiarity with reviewing construction drawings and specifications; experience with AutoCAD and Revit is beneficial.
- Strong computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Ability to manage deadlines and adapt to shifting priorities.
- A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for travel may be required.

Work Environment- This role is primarily office-based, with a hybrid work model currently in place.
- Travel to project sites and client offices may be necessary.
- Manual dexterity is required for using desktop computers and peripherals.
