About the Role

The Renewable Energy Segment Specialist will play a key role in driving Aviva's ambition to be a leader in renewable energy insurance and risk management. This is a high-profile, hub-and-spoke specialist role that delivers segment expertise and consultation across the entire insurance enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive renewable energy strategy across the organization.
  • Contribute subject-matter-expertise to Aviva's strategic plan for the renewable energy segment, working closely with underwriting divisions to steer underwriting approaches to in-appetite project & operational Renewable Energy occupancies.
  • Develop a rolling pipeline of opportunities in all market tiers in the renewable energy segment, influencing positive underwriting and customer outcomes by consulting across all businesses, functions and distributors.
  • Act as the primary representative of Aviva at events within industry associations, participating in roundtables, committees, events, and managing relationships with leading industry associations.
  • Monitor the competitive landscape, optimizing risk selection, and increasing competitive position, creating and implementing appropriate underwriting strategies based on trends and the competitive environment.
  • Ensure that the organization operates within the approved risk appetite framework and that the appropriate culture, governance, and oversight arrangements are in place to effectively manage the risks to Aviva achieving its objectives.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in business, mathematics, statistics, economics, finance, or other related field or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in the insurance industry with a demonstrated specialization in renewable energy, project, and operational risks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage up and down, influence others without authority, collaborate, and coordinate with internal and external partners.
  • A solid understanding of the dynamics of the insurance marketplace and the ability to use this knowledge to enhance relationships with customers and respond to known and anticipated trends.
  • Proficiency in applying highly specialized knowledge and expertise of complex risks for large complex programs.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and proactively pursue potential business opportunities with brokers and customers.
  • A high degree of humility, integrity, and personal pride in doing what is right.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work closely with and support other senior executives in the development and implementation of creative and strategic ideas.
  • Ability to identify key priorities and problems, obtain relevant information, identify root causes, and generate alternative solutions to reach sound management decisions.
  • The clear ability to fit into the Aviva team and to work effectively with other executives in the development of all strategic and operational plans, activities, and initiatives.
  • Capable of dissecting and managing data at a cellular level to optimize risk selection, market segmentation, and competitive position.
  • Versatility in thought process and the ability to apply critical thinking skills to identify key levers and priorities for large amounts of information.
  • Possesses the ability to balance quantitative analysis with competitor behaviors within the marketplace.
