The Sustainable Energies Group (SEG) at CPP Investments merges the organization's expertise in renewable energy, conventional energy, and innovative technology and service solutions, positioning CPP Investments as a premier global energy investor. SEG capitalizes on emerging market opportunities as the energy sector transforms and global power demand escalates, particularly for low-carbon energy alternatives. The Analyst will assist in developing and executing the Sustainable Energies Group strategy and drive investment outcomes:

• Support the identification and execution of new investment opportunities with a focus on North America
• Assist in asset management in North America, enhancing the capabilities of the Sustainable Energies Group team
• Collaborate effectively with SEG team members, investment committees, and other divisions of CPP Investments
• Participate in a global team, engaging in worldwide strategic initiatives and staffing models
• Act as a strong culture ambassador within the Sustainable Energies Group, embodying CPP Investments' guiding principles and the core values of innovation, collaboration, transparency, and mutual respect

The Analyst will have the opportunity to showcase and develop the following competencies:

Deal Execution

• Proficient deal execution capabilities, including liaising with external advisors (especially investment banks) and coordinating deal processes
• Ability to concurrently research, analyze, and evaluate a range of sustainable energy investment opportunities, including conducting due diligence on past and projected financial performance, management quality, investment merits and risks, expected returns, regulatory landscape, industry dynamics, and other pertinent factors
• Experience in reviewing third-party due diligence reports (accounting, industry strategic reviews, environmental assessments, etc.)
• Experience engaging with prospective companies' management to discuss past performance, strategy, outlook, regulatory and industry issues, and other relevant topics as necessary

Asset Management and Value Creation

• Monitor the ongoing financial and operational performance of existing Sustainable Energies Group investments and support daily execution
• With assistance from the Sustainable Energies Group and Portfolio Value Creation teams, identify and contribute insights to the team's value creation efforts (including execution plans)

Team Building, Development, and Engagement

• Establish and manage relationships with CPP Investments' internal teams and portfolio companies' management
• Demonstrate interpersonal effectiveness in terms of upward management and relationship building with team members
• Participate in and contribute to weekly Sustainable Energies Group meetings

Strong Culture Ambassador

• Exemplify the Guiding Principles and promote them within the Sustainable Energies Group and across CPP Investments

Deal Assessment and Relationship Management

• Build relationships across cultures and geographies, including with key advisors, partners, and management teams
• Evaluate relative value and risks, assisting deal teams in quickly analyzing and screening markets and investment opportunities
• Liaise with investment partners (other investors) and advisors (financial, industry specialists, etc.)

• A minimum of one year of experience in investment banking or private equity, with exposure to sustainable energy investments/transactions being advantageous
• Intellectual curiosity and a passion for investing
• Strong research, financial modeling, analytical, and valuation skills
• Ability to work effectively in a multi-office (preferably global) matrix organization
• Strong interpersonal and business relationship skills
• Effective communication skills, both oral and written
• Flexibility, adaptability, and initiative
• Additional languages are an asset
