Job Summary:

We are seeking candidates who are based in London or Windsor, Ontario, or are willing to relocate to this area.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts technical assessments of non-certified equipment within their area of expertise.
  • Verifies that products comply with technical specifications and are devoid of potential fire and shock hazards, making decisions based on field evaluations and testing.
  • Possesses the technical proficiency to assess all products, including innovative and unique items, with support from other technical personnel as necessary.
  • Engages with clients professionally to arrange inspection appointments, discuss costing procedures, respond to inquiries, and provide technical guidance in accordance with the Field Evaluation program.
  • Prepares detailed technical reports documenting necessary modifications for sub-standard equipment and reviews corrective actions with clients.
  • Conducts research on technical and procedural matters, including standards and guidelines, collaborating with Engineering, Lab, and colleagues on procedural issues and interpretations.
  • Offers training to less experienced Special Inspection Representatives by clarifying CSA requirements, providing information, answering questions, and mentoring trainees during inspections.
  • Performs inspections on emerging technologies and complex product types, possessing the authority to make significant technical decisions.
  • Participates in the SI Technical Committee alongside the SI TA and other Level II SIRs, which involves comprehensive research, evaluation of requirements, and documentation of procedures in departmental Technotes.
  • Interacts with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) as necessary.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related Sciences with 6 years of industry-related experience; Engineering Technology or Associate's Degree with 8 years of industry-related experience; or a Journeyman Electrician with 6 years of industry-related experience; or a related technical field with 10+ years of industry-related experience.
  • Certification / Lab Testing experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation and general laboratory procedures.

Skills:

  • Ability to manage multiple inspection files and adapt to changing schedules and deadlines with supervision.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and test data as required to fulfill assigned responsibilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; self-motivated; effective decision-making and organizational skills.
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills to navigate challenging situations.
  • Proficient in computer skills (word processing, e-mail).
  • Experience with calibrated measurement instruments, high voltage test equipment, and hand tools.
