Job Summary:

The City of Whitehorse is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Recreational Programs Coordinator. In this role, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering high-quality recreational programs for children and youth.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Develop and implement engaging and inclusive programs that cater to diverse age groups and abilities.

2. Ensure a safe and welcoming environment for participants, staff, and community partners.

3. Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, participants, parents, and the public to ensure seamless program delivery.

4. Maintain accurate records, compile statistics, and provide feedback on program effectiveness.

5. Collaborate with colleagues to ensure compliance with established safety procedures and standards.

Working Conditions:

This role requires working in a public recreation setting with occasional exposure to noisy conditions and bodily fluids. Regular evening and weekend work is required.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Completion of Grade 12.
  • 2 years of experience working or volunteering with children and youth in a recreational setting, with 3 months of on-the-job training.
  • RCMP Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Standard First Aid, CPR Level C + AED.
  • WHMIS.
  • Food Safe Level 1 (asset).
  • High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development Certification or equivalent (asset).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and manage behavior problems in children and youth.
  • Conflict resolution skills and ability to deal with the general public.
  • Ability to foster and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders.

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
