Recreational Programs Coordinator

Job Summary:
The City of Whitehorse is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to coordinate and deliver recreational programs for children and youth. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing engaging and safe activities that promote physical and emotional well-being.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement program plans that cater to diverse age groups and abilities.
- Ensure a safe and inclusive program environment, adhering to established safety procedures and standards.
- Communicate effectively with internal staff, participants, community partners, parents, and the public.
- Maintain accurate records and provide feedback on program effectiveness.
- Collaborate with colleagues to achieve program goals and objectives.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Working Conditions:
The majority of work will be performed in a public recreation setting, with some exposure to noisy conditions and bodily fluids. Regular evening and weekend work is required, with hours of work between 05:00 and 01:00, Sunday to Saturday.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Completion of Grade 12.
- 2 years of previous experience working or volunteering with children and youth in a recreational setting, with 3 months of on-the-job training.
- RCMP Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Standard First Aid, CPR Level C + AED.
- WHMIS.
- Food Safe Level 1 (an asset).
- High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development Certification or equivalent (an asset).
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse age groups and abilities.
- Ability to motivate children and youth, and manage behavior problems.
- Ability to plan and implement quality learning programs for children and youth.
- Conflict resolution skills and ability to deal with the general public.
- Ability to foster and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
