Position Overview

The Facilities Reliability & Integrity Engineering Services (FRIES) team at TC Energy is composed of skilled professionals who utilize their extensive technical knowledge to enhance the value of our facilities across North America. This team is tasked with creating tailored technical standards and asset management strategies that effectively balance risk, performance, and cost efficiency.

Within the FRIES team, the Industrial Controls & Cybersecurity (IC&C) division consists of engineering experts specializing in systems and equipment essential to gas facility operations, excluding the primary mover components. The IC&C division has four main responsibilities:

  • Acting as the technical authority for engineering standards
  • Delivering advanced engineering support to operational teams
  • Formulating asset management strategies
  • Assisting project engineering efforts

We are currently seeking an Engineer specializing in Industrial Control Systems and Cybersecurity, who possesses both industry knowledge and practical experience in gas facility control systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, install, maintain, and troubleshoot Industrial Control System (ICS) networks across TC Energy's operations in North America
  • Provide advanced technical support to field teams, assisting in problem identification, malfunction analysis, modifications, and repairs
  • Maintain comprehensive Asset Management Plans, Integrity Plans, and Facility Management Plans for ICS network assets
  • Offer technical guidance on the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and modifications of ICS networks, including HMI, communications, controls, monitoring, and analytics
  • Educate ICS personnel on Cyber Security practices, troubleshooting techniques, and the implementation of new asset types
  • Monitor for vulnerabilities, assess risks, and assist in developing remediation strategies
  • Implement firmware and patch upgrades for all ICS hardware and software
  • Track and document firmware and patch levels for ICS hardware and software, including PLCs, switches, and other related equipment
  • Ensure compliance with Cyber Security policies and standards
  • Conduct engineering studies, providing technical input to field teams and the Engineering & Construction group
  • Analyze automation schedules and construction plans for their impact on existing operations
  • Investigate and recommend improvements related to equipment integrity and efficiency
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies to enhance operational efficiency
  • Share best practices and improvement opportunities within the organization
  • Promote standardization of equipment and maintenance procedures across operations
  • Support qualification programs by establishing performance standards and providing training
  • Oversee data acquisition systems and ensure compliance with company standards

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience
  • Proficient in configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining Cisco IOS-based network switches
  • Proven ability to design ICS networks, including zoning and familiarity with the Purdue Model
  • Strong knowledge of electrical, controls, and automation systems
  • Familiarity with various PLC and HMI platforms

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in developing best-practice switch configurations for ICS environments
  • Knowledge of firewall operations and effective rule configuration
  • Proven experience in remote troubleshooting of network issues
  • Familiarity with Windows Network Policy Server or RADIUS server authentication
  • Understanding of SNMP v3 configuration and implementation
  • Proficiency with Solarwinds tools for network management
  • Knowledge of Converged Plantwide Ethernet (CPwE) architectures
  • Familiarity with Active Directory and DNS structuring
  • Experience with scripting languages like Python
  • Expertise in network security measures and documentation
  • Background in the gas pipeline industry
  • Broad knowledge of industrial data communications
  • Familiarity with Allen-Bradley control systems

  • Availability for extended hours and travel as needed
