The Role Overview
Within the Facilities Reliability & Integrity Engineering Services (FRIES) division, our team of specialists focuses on optimizing the value of our facilities assets throughout North America. This group is tasked with establishing tailored technical standards and asset management strategies that effectively balance risk, performance, and cost. Furthermore, FRIES offers advanced subject matter expertise to tackle intricate engineering issues and support operational and project engineering tasks.
The Industrial Controls & Cybersecurity (IC&C) team is composed of engineering experts with extensive knowledge of systems critical to gas facility operations, excluding the primary machinery. We are currently seeking an Industrial Control System and Cybersecurity Engineer who possesses both industry experience and technical acumen in gas facility control systems.
In this position, you will be responsible for designing, assisting with installations, maintaining, and troubleshooting ICS networks across our North American operations. Additional duties include developing protocols, processes, integrity plans, and training programs to ensure the reliability and supportability of ICS networks, while also safeguarding these assets against cyber threats through strategic patching, end-of-life integrity plans, and layered security architectures.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, install, maintain, and troubleshoot ICS networks across TC Energy's facilities in North America.
- Provide advanced technical support to field teams, assisting in problem identification, malfunction analysis, modifications, and repairs.
- Maintain comprehensive Asset Management Plans, Integrity Plans, and Facility Management Plans for ICS network assets.
- Offer technical guidance and training related to the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and modifications of ICS networks, including HMI, communications, controls, monitoring, and analytics equipment.
- Educate ICS personnel on Cyber Security protocols, troubleshooting techniques, and the implementation of new asset types.
- Monitor for vulnerabilities, assess their risks, and assist in developing remediation strategies.
- Execute firmware and patch upgrades for all ICS hardware and software.
- Track and document firmware and patch levels for ICS hardware and software, including PLCs, switches, and HMI software.
- Ensure compliance with Cyber Security policies and standards, and manage adherence to applicable regulations.
- Conduct engineering studies, providing technical insights and support to field teams and the Engineering & Construction group.
- Analyze automation schedules and construction plans to assess their impact on existing operations.
- Investigate and recommend improvements related to equipment integrity and efficiency.
- Stay updated with emerging technologies to enhance operational efficiency.
- Share best practices, improvement opportunities, and technological advancements with the organization.
- Promote standardization of equipment and maintenance procedures across operations.
- Support qualification programs by establishing performance standards and providing training.
- Oversee data acquisition systems and ensure compliance with company standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience.
- Strong background in configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining Cisco IOS-based network switches.
- Proven ability to design ICS networks, including zoning and familiarity with the Purdue Model.
- Proficient knowledge of electrical, controls, and automation systems.
- Broad understanding of various PLC and HMI platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in developing best-practice switch configurations for ICS environments.
- Knowledge of firewall operations and effective rule configuration.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot network issues in high-pressure situations.
- Familiarity with Windows Network Policy Server or RADIUS server authentication.
- Understanding of SNMP v3 configuration and implementation.
- Proficiency with Solarwinds tools for network management.
- Knowledge of Converged Plantwide Ethernet (CPwE) architectures.
- Familiarity with Active Directory and DNS structuring.
- Experience with scripting languages like Python.
- Expertise in network security measures and threat mitigation.
- Background in the gas pipeline industry.
- Comprehensive knowledge of industrial data communications.
- Familiarity with Allen-Bradley control systems.

- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment medical screening.
- Availability for extended hours and travel as needed.
