The Role
The Facilities Reliability & Integrity Engineering Services (FRIES) team at TC Energy is composed of specialists who utilize extensive technical knowledge and subject matter expertise to enhance the value of our facilities across North America. The FRIES team is tasked with creating tailored technical standards and asset management strategies that effectively balance risk, performance, and cost efficiency. Furthermore, FRIES offers advanced subject matter expert (SME) support to tackle intricate engineering issues and bolster operations and project engineering efforts.
Within the FRIES team, the Industrial Controls & Cybersecurity (IC&C) group consists of engineering experts with profound technical knowledge of systems and equipment vital to gas facility operations, excluding the primary machinery (i.e., compressor units and main pipelines). The IC&C group has four main responsibilities:
Acting as the technical authority for engineering standards Delivering Tier 3 (advanced) engineering support to operational teams Formulating asset management strategies Assisting project engineering activitiesThe IC&C group is in search of an Industrial Control System and Cybersecurity Engineer who possesses both industry experience and technical proficiency, particularly in gas facility industrial control systems.
This position involves designing, providing installation support, maintaining, and troubleshooting ICS networks throughout TC Energy's North American operations. Additional duties include developing procedures, processes, integrity plans, and training programs to ensure the reliability and supportability of ICS networks by field personnel, while also safeguarding ICS assets against cyber threats through patch management, end-of-life integrity strategies, and comprehensive security architectures.
Key Responsibilities
Design, install, maintain, and troubleshoot TC Energy's Industrial Control System (ICS) facility networks across North America Offer Tier 3 subject matter expertise to field teams, assisting in problem identification and resolution, malfunction analysis, modifications, and technical support Maintain Asset Management Plans, Integrity Plans, and Facility Management Plans for ICS network assets Provide technical guidance and support regarding the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and modifications of ICS networks, including HMI, communications, controls, monitoring, and analytics equipment Educate ICS personnel on practices necessary to comply with Cyber Security standards, effectively troubleshoot and maintain ICS networks, and implement new asset types Monitor for vulnerabilities, assess their risk levels, and assist in developing remediation strategies Implement and execute firmware and patch upgrades for all ICS hardware and software Track and document firmware and patch levels for ICS hardware and software, including PLCs, switches, protocol converters, VFDs, soft starters, RTUs, flow meters, chromatographs, thin clients, and HMI software Ensure TC Energy's ICS compliance with Cyber Security policies and standards, and adhere to relevant regulations Conduct engineering studies, providing technical input and support to field teams and the Engineering & Construction division Analyze automation schedules and construction plans to assess their impact on existing facilities and operations Investigate and evaluate the integrity and efficiency of equipment, making recommendations as necessary Stay updated with emerging technologies to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness Share best practices, improvement opportunities, new technologies, and relevant information with others in the organization Promote standardization of equipment, maintenance functions, programs, and procedures across field operations Support the Field Technician Qualification and Operator Qualification programs by establishing performance standards, providing mentoring, and delivering technical training Oversee data acquisition systems and related computer equipment, coordinate software modifications, and ensure compliance with company standards and policiesMinimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline At least 5 years of relevant experience Strong experience in configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining Cisco IOS-based network switches Proven ability to design ICS networks, including zoning and familiarity with the Purdue Model Proficient knowledge of electrical, controls, and automation systems Comprehensive understanding of various PLC and HMI platformsPreferred Qualifications
Experience in developing and implementing best-practice switch configurations for ICS environments Knowledge of firewall operations and effective rule structure configuration Proven ability to troubleshoot network issues remotely under high-pressure conditions Familiarity with Windows Network Policy Server or RADIUS server authentication for network switches Understanding of SNMP v3 configuration and implementation Proficiency with Solarwinds tools, such as Network Configuration Manager and Network Performance Monitor Knowledge of Converged Plantwide Ethernet (CPwE) architectures Familiarity with Active Directory, Sites and Services architecture, and DNS structuring Experience with Python or similar scripting languages Expertise in installing, updating, and configuring software applications, network security software, and documenting systems and networks Experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining robust computer system and network security measures Ability to assess and mitigate potential security threats Background in the gas pipeline industry Extensive knowledge and experience in industrial data communications Familiarity with Allen-Bradley equipment and control systemsThis position requires candidates to
