Position: Child Youth Worker - Overnight Awake Shifts
Overview of the Role
As a Child Youth Worker, you will be an integral part of a dedicated team providing essential care and support to young individuals residing in community-based staffed homes. Your role will focus on encouraging and empowering the youth to achieve independence, self-determination, and to lead fulfilling lives while upholding high standards of care, health, and safety. Your innate ability to nurture and collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team will significantly contribute to the success of your colleagues and the youth we serve.
Work Schedule: 4 days on, 4 days off - 8-hour shifts
Key Responsibilities
- Advocate for the rights and choices of the children in your care, ensuring they are respected.
- Engage positively with the youth, fostering meaningful interactions.
- Support the youth in becoming active participants in their community.
- Contribute to the creation, execution, and documentation of Personal Service Plans.
- Build and maintain constructive relationships with family members, professionals, colleagues, and community members.
- Assist with daily living activities and the administration of medication.
- Possess a solid understanding of behavior management techniques and strategies, particularly concerning mental health needs.
- Document daily activities and personal health information (PHI) in our case management system.
- Collaborate with the youth to maintain a clean and organized home environment, including meal preparation and light housekeeping tasks.
Qualifications
- Completion of Grade 12 education.
- Child and Youth Care Diploma or an equivalent qualification.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in community social services, particularly with youth facing significant mental health, substance use, or concurrent disorder challenges in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
- Experience in Trauma-Informed Practice, Harm Reduction, and Recovery-Oriented Care.
- Current certifications in Emergency First Aid/CPR and Food Safety.
- Prior training in behavior management.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with team members, professionals, families, and community members.
- Non-verbal communication proficiency.
- Possession of a Restricted Class 4 Driver's License (for Full-Time positions).
- Clean Driver's Abstract.
- Criminal record clearance for working with children and vulnerable adults.
- Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) HUB clearance.
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination status as per current Public Health Orders.
- Recent TB Test.
- Moderate computer skills.
- Eligibility to work in Canada.
