About the Role

The City of New York is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the position of Director of Housing Initiatives within the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). This role will play a critical part in the development and implementation of housing initiatives, specializing in client substance abuse and mental illness history, locating suitable housing initiatives, and assisting the transition of clients into housing.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Oversee Housing Initiatives: Develop and implement effective strategies to locate suitable housing initiatives for clients with substance abuse and mental illness history.
  2. Lead Representative for Street Homeless Solutions Division: Serve as a key representative for the Street Homeless Solutions Division, providing guidance and direction on capacity and rehousing initiatives.
  3. Administrative Planning and Projects: Initiate and conduct administrative planning and projects to improve efficiency, assist in the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures, and report on programmatic issues to maximize division and agency efficiency.
  4. Rehousing and Liaison: Manage divisions rehousing and liaise between DHS Rehousing Unit and providers to ensure clients are submitting packages, report on programmatic issues to maximize efficiency, and track providers with low housing package rates.
  5. Client Support and Case Conferencing: Participate in case conferencing with clients, specifically when clients are no shows, and assist in tracking client movements from emergency beds to other placements.
  6. Workgroups and Interagency Meetings: Chair workgroups to devise strategies to introduce efficiencies and successfully implement agency initiatives, lead/represent DHS in inter/intra agency meetings, and supervise subordinate staff.
  7. Data-Driven Strategies: Implement data-driven strategies to assess needs, track program outcomes, and continuously improve outreach efforts, monitor program effectiveness, and regularly report on key performance indicators.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and four years of progressively responsible experience, including one year at the administrative or managerial level in a large governmental agency, business firm, civic, or community organization operating in the area of social services.
