About the Role

The City of New York is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the position of Director of Housing Initiatives. This role will be a key member of the Street Homeless Solutions Division, responsible for overseeing the division's housing initiatives and ensuring the successful transition of clients into permanent housing.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead Housing Initiatives: Oversee the division's housing initiatives, specializing in client substance abuse and mental illness history, locating suitable housing initiatives, and assisting the transition of clients into housing.
  2. Represent the Division: Take the lead as a key representative for the Street Homeless Solutions Division, concerning capacity and rehousing.
  3. Administrative Planning: Initiate and conduct administrative planning and projects to improve efficiency. Assist in the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures.
  4. Programmatic Reporting: Report on programmatic issues to maximize division and agency efficiency. Provide administrative direction and strategic guidance regarding the division's capacity and rehousing packages to the programs executive level staff.
  5. Rehousing Management: Manage divisions rehousing and liaise between DHS Rehousing Unit and providers to ensure clients are submitting packages. Report on programmatic issues to maximize efficiency.
  6. Provider Management: Track providers with low housing package rates and meet with Site Directors to discuss statistics and develop corrective action plans.
  7. Housing Package Support: Ensure housing packages are being completed and provide support when troubleshooting issues are not being resolved.
  8. Case Conferencing: Participate in case conferencing with clients, specifically when clients are no shows, and assist in tracking client movements from emergency beds to other placements.
  9. Workgroup Leadership: Chair workgroups to devise strategies to introduce efficiencies and successfully implement agency initiatives.
  10. Interagency Representation: Lead/represent DHS in inter/intra agency meetings.
  11. Staff Supervision: Supervise subordinate staff.
  12. Data-Driven Strategies: Implement data-driven strategies to assess needs, track program outcomes, and continuously improve outreach efforts. Monitor program effectiveness and regularly report on key performance indicators.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and four years of progressively responsible experience, including one year at the administrative or managerial level in a large governmental agency, business firm, civic, or community organization operating in the area of social services.
