Job Summary

Bureau Veritas Switzerland AG is seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Analyst to join our team. As a Laboratory Analyst, you will be responsible for performing analytical procedures and related quality control techniques to ensure the accuracy and reliability of our laboratory results.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Review laboratory reports to plan and organize daily work.
  2. Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) when conducting analytical procedures.
  3. Prepare standards and reagents and ensure adequate supplies are available.
  4. Ensure a high level of accuracy in sample preparation and analysis.
  5. Operate and maintain all necessary instruments and equipment.
  6. Assess and correct problems with laboratory operations according to SOP guidelines and ISO 17025 regulation criteria.
  7. Meet quality and turnaround time specifications required by clients.
  8. Identify and document all known sample deviations, non-conformances, and/or process deviations and report to the Supervisor.
  9. Employ proper laboratory techniques to minimize risk of mislabeling, sample mix-up and cross contamination between samples and other materials.
  10. Provide input to corrective action procedures and report problems and Corrective Actions to the Supervisor.
  11. Provide Supervisor/Manager with updates on workstation status including advance notification of any delays.
  12. Evaluate and initiate problem solving in all areas of the laboratory.
  13. Participate in developing Standard Operating Procedures and general work instructions.
  14. Participate in the development/validation of new procedures and instruments, as required.
  15. Monitor the laboratory to improve efficiencies and reduce costs in a continuous and ongoing fashion.
  16. Support and comply with all Bureau Veritas policies, Quality System and Health & Safety program.
  17. Participate, when requested, in lab and Health & Safety meetings.
  18. Participate, when requested, in internal and external audits.
  19. Provide training and guidance to junior staff.
  20. Maintain training records and relevant qualifications.
  21. Keep work area clean, neat and organized.
  22. All other responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
  1. Post-Secondary school education or equivalent experience.
  2. Demonstrated success in the role of a Laboratory Technician.
  3. Sound knowledge of sample handling procedures to ensure continuity and integrity of samples through compliance with laboratory procedures and quality assurance protocols.
  4. Knowledge of, and experience with laboratory Occupational Health and Safety practices to handle hazardous materials by taking the necessary precautions.
  5. Excellent manual dexterity, record keeping, calculations and problem-solving abilities.
  6. Flexible to perform varying duties to accommodate changing priorities.
  7. Accurately follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and instructions.
  8. Detail oriented with accurate record keeping skills.
  9. Good time-management, communication, multi-tasking and priority setting skills.
  10. Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  11. Adapts to a changing environment.
  12. Works both independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions
  1. High level of work production in fast-paced lab environment. Can involve the repetition of the same process. Requires patience, tenacity and persistence.
  2. Flexible working hours, overtime and shift work.
  3. May involve long periods of standing.
  4. Some lifting and carrying (up to 40 lbs).
  5. Hazardous materials are handled using established safety procedures and appropriate equipment.
