Position Overview

The selected candidate will play a crucial role in managing all aspects of sample registration within our laboratory environment. This position is vital for ensuring that samples are accurately received, organized, and documented in our data management systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and process incoming work orders efficiently;
  • Verify the completeness of samples and associated documentation;
  • Accurately input data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS);
  • Identify and address any discrepancies in client sample processing instructions;
  • Collaborate closely with the Laboratory Manager and team members to ensure seamless service delivery;
  • Adhere to established protocols and safety regulations;
  • Manage the transport of samples within the laboratory, including some physical lifting (up to 20 kg);
  • Prepare samples for subsequent analysis and extraction;
  • Conduct measurements of sample mass and volume;
  • Filter samples for various analytical tests, ensuring analysts are informed of any unusual characteristics;
  • Complete bench sheets with precision;
  • Operate basic laboratory equipment such as pipettes and centrifuges;
  • Organize tasks to meet turnaround times and hold times;
  • Troubleshoot internal and external issues as they arise;
  • Provide training to junior staff members;
  • Follow established methods to maintain analytical quality;
  • Comply with all health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Exceptional keyboarding skills with a high degree of accuracy;
  • Practical experience in data entry and laboratory settings;
  • Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, and LIMS;
  • Strong focus on customer service and effective communication;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team;
  • Capable of functioning with minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg);
  • Manual dexterity for detailed tasks;
  • Capacity to stand for extended periods;
  • Ability to perform general office tasks while seated;
  • Compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements;
  • Willingness to work in varying conditions, including exposure to odours.
