Job Summary

Hamilton Health Sciences is seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team in the Critical Care Unit. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide respiratory therapy assessments, therapy discharge, and care plans for patients requiring invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
  • Support the care and management of patients in the Critical Care Unit, including advanced neonatal resuscitation and newborn airway management.
  • Assist patients with pre/post tracheotomy care and needs, and liaise with medical specialists as required.
  • Provide education and support to patients, caregivers, allied health professionals, and physicians on respiratory therapy and related topics.
  • Participate in Code Blue team and attend patient and program meetings as required.
Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Current General Certificate of Registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO) and in good standing with College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario.
  • Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care (CBRC) exam.
  • Valid BCLS and ACLS certifications.
  • Valid NRP certification.
  • Experience in respiratory rehabilitation, invasive and non-invasive ventilation, and oxygen therapy.
  • Recent experience in Adult Respiratory Care in advanced airway secretion clearance techniques and difficult airway management.
  • Recent experience in Adult Critical Care setting.
  • Recent experience in Neonatal airway management and pediatric airway management.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in adult oral endotracheal intubation, adult arterial blood gas sampling, and adult tracheostomy management and care.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of respiratory care, support, and critical care management of adult critical care patients.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and maintenance of respiratory, resuscitation, and anesthesia-related equipment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and coordinator skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated creativity and innovation in the delivery of patient care.
  • Demonstrated excellent skills in communication, organization, and interaction with multiple healthcare team members.
  • Demonstrated commitment to family-centered care.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Post-graduate education/certification in Asthma Education and/or COPD.
  • Post-graduate education/certification in Intensive Smoking Cessation.
