POSITION SUMMARY

The In-Home Care Assistant plays a crucial role in delivering support and guidance with personal care and household tasks. As an integral part of Long Term Care and Seniors Services, the In-Home Care Assistant is dedicated to ensuring client safety by providing exceptional services aligned with the organization's mission and vision.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Deliver personal care to clients in accordance with established policies and recognized nursing principles acquired through the Personal Support Worker program.

2. Engage in the overall activation process to enhance the physical, social, and emotional well-being of each client.

3. Monitor and report significant changes in clients' physical and emotional states; document findings accurately.

4. Assist clients with daily living activities, including laundry, housekeeping, oxygen tank refills, personal care, bathing, medication checks, and vital signs monitoring.

5. Foster and maintain professional work ethics and effective relationships with colleagues, clients, families, and community organizations.

6. Contribute to the development and revision of policies related to Quality Risk Management programs and complete necessary reporting.

7. Utilize all electronic systems efficiently.

8. Ensure a safe working environment.

9. Uphold personal accountability for ethical behavior.

10. Assist in the orientation of new staff and students.

11. Collaborate on client care plans and complete documentation as required.

12. Respond promptly to client emergencies and assess situations, seeking professional assistance when necessary.

13. Participate in and demonstrate understanding of resident safety principles in daily activities, adhering to safe work practices.

14. Perform additional duties as assigned.

15. Comply with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Long Term Care Homes Act, ensuring safe practices in all duties.

16. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with applicable privacy legislation.

17. Engage in educational in-services to identify personal and group learning needs and set work-related goals.

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION

• Completion of, or current enrollment in, the Personal Support Worker Certification program as mandated by the Long Term Care Homes Act.

• Ability to work collaboratively within an inter-professional care team.

• Good physical condition to meet the demands of the role.

• Proven reliability and trustworthiness with minimal supervision.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

• Leadership and organizational capabilities.

• First Aid certification is an asset.

• Annual CPR recertification documentation is required.

• A recent Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is mandatory.

• TB testing results are required as per Public Health guidelines.

• Bilingualism in English and French is an asset.

EXPERIENCE

• No prior experience is necessary with the required educational background.

EFFORT

• Some physical effort is necessary when assisting clients with daily living activities and housekeeping tasks.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Potential exposure to illnesses and viruses while working with clients.
