POSITION SUMMARY

The Home Support Worker plays a crucial role in delivering compassionate assistance with personal care and household tasks. As an integral part of Long Term Care and Seniors Services, this position emphasizes a strong commitment to client safety, ensuring high-quality support aligns with the organization's mission and vision.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Deliver personal care services to clients in compliance with established administrative policies and recognized nursing principles acquired through the Personal Support Worker program.

2. Engage in the overall activation process, actively promoting the physical, social, and emotional well-being of each client.

3. Monitor and report significant changes in clients' physical and emotional states, documenting findings appropriately.

4. Assist clients with daily living activities, including laundry, housekeeping, oxygen tank management, personal care, bathing, medication checks, and vital signs monitoring. Responsible for meal service, cleanup, and resetting dining areas.

5. Cultivate and maintain professional work ethics and effective relationships with colleagues, clients, families, and community stakeholders.

6. Contribute to the development and revision of policies and procedures related to Quality Risk Management programs, including fall and incident reporting.

7. Utilize all electronic systems effectively.

8. Ensure a safe working environment.

9. Uphold personal accountability for ethical behavior.

10. Assist in the orientation of new staff members and students.

11. Participate in client care planning and assessments, ensuring accurate documentation.

12. Respond promptly to client emergencies, assessing situations and seeking professional assistance when necessary.

13. Incorporate resident safety principles into daily activities, adhering to safe work practices and promptly reporting any potential risks.

14. Perform additional duties as assigned.

15. Comply with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Long Term Care Homes Act, ensuring safe practices and adherence to health and safety policies.

16. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with relevant privacy legislation.

17. Engage in educational in-services, identifying personal and group learning needs, and setting work-related goals in collaboration with the Supervisor of Seniors Services.

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS, AND CERTIFICATION

• Completion of, or current enrollment in, the Personal Support Worker Certification program as mandated by the Long Term Care Homes Act and Regulations.

• Ability to collaborate effectively within an inter-professional care team.

• Good physical condition to meet the demands of the role.

• Proven reliability and trustworthiness with minimal supervision.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

• Good leadership and organizational abilities.

• First Aid certification is an asset.

• Proof of annual CPR recertification.

• Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening required at the time of hire.

• TB testing results required as a condition of employment.

• Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset.

EXPERIENCE

No prior experience is necessary with the required educational background.

EFFORT

Some physical effort is required when assisting clients with daily living activities and performing housekeeping tasks.

WORKING CONDITIONS

May encounter illnesses or viruses while providing care to clients.
