Qualifications and Requirements

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nursing Practice Director to join our team at Island Health. The successful candidate will possess a Master's Degree in nursing and have seven to ten years of recent, related experience and leadership experience in a complex healthcare environment.

The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of current thinking related to practice, leadership, care, and service delivery, as well as budgets, project management, change, and quality improvement. They will also have current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize comprehensive knowledge of professional practice, nursing regulations, and nursing standards to apply across the continuum of care.
  • Understand available resources for practice and keep quality in the forefront of all resource utilization decisions; provide knowledgeable input into the planning and resource allocation for Services/Programs within the Community of Care.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive expertise of the area to transform theory into program strategy and direction.
  • Facilitate, collaborate, and negotiate for effective resolution of practice issues.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and ability to foster a respectful and motivating work environment where individual competencies can thrive.
  • Keep informed about evolving trends and practices, share knowledge, and support Nurses to integrate evidence-based practice in the delivery of quality care/services while optimizing nursing scope.
  • Foster collaborative and effective working relationships to support the professional practice and ongoing development of staff and contribute to an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect.
  • Use strong written communication skills in the development of reports, business cases, etc. and in internal and external partner engagement.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
