Role Summary:

Under general supervision, the Service Worker in Caretaking performs a variety of cleaning and custodial tasks according to established procedures. This role may also involve assisting with other maintenance responsibilities as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Thoroughly cleans and dusts various surfaces including furniture, floors, hallways, and ledges using appropriate cleaning materials and equipment.
  • Maintains and restores floors through processes such as stripping, refinishing, and buffing.
  • Regularly sanitizes washrooms, ensuring cleanliness of sinks, toilets, mirrors, and floors.
  • Collects and disposes of waste and recycling, ensuring proper disposal methods are followed.
  • Conducts carpet cleaning and spot removal as necessary.
  • Washes windows and walls, ensuring a clean and presentable environment.
  • Rearranges furniture as required to facilitate cleaning tasks.
  • Prepares beds for residence guests when needed.
  • Restocks supplies in washrooms and utility kitchens.
  • Replaces light bulbs and cleans fixtures as necessary.
  • Maintains cleanliness of exterior entrance areas.
  • Assists with snow removal and other seasonal tasks.
  • May help set up for special events and examinations.
  • Ensures escalators and elevators are clean and well-maintained.
  • Locks and unlocks doors as instructed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: Completion of tenth grade or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience: A minimum of one year of relevant work experience is preferred.

Skills: Must possess the physical capability to perform the duties outlined and operate the required equipment. Effective communication skills in English, both oral and written, are essential.
