About the Role

This is a part-time 60% FTE term appointment at the University of Toronto. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing heavy cleaning and custodial duties, moving and setting up furniture and equipment on a routine basis and for special events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cleans and scrubs floors and washrooms using appropriate equipment, including automatic floor cleaning machines, electric buffers, mops, and vacuum cleaners.
  • Sets up cleaning equipment for use and maintains cleaning equipment.
  • Reconditions floors using appropriate equipment.
  • Performs routine and special room set-ups, including following work orders, room diagrams, and verbal instructions.
  • Moves and sets up furniture and equipment according to plan and schedule.
  • Opens and locks doors to assigned rooms.
  • May assist in setting out academic examination booklets.
  • Clears furniture and equipment as requested and stores in appropriate areas.
  • Performs maintenance functions, such as changing lights and minor adjustments to furniture and equipment.

Requirements

  • Completion of grade ten or equivalent.
  • One year of related experience; education may be substituted for experience.
  • Physical ability to perform required duties, including heavy lifting and pushing of furniture and equipment, considerable walking, and stair climbing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, including reading and writing.
  • Ability to work independently and awareness of building security and fire procedures.
  • Tact and diplomacy in dealing with others.

Working Conditions

This is a part-time 60% FTE term appointment, ending in June 2025. The successful candidate will be required to work independently and as part of a team to maintain a clean and safe environment for the University community.
