Job Overview

The 5C Nephro/Neuro unit is a specialized 36-bed medical facility equipped with renal dialysis capabilities, allowing patients to receive dialysis treatment in their rooms when necessary. Our patient demographic includes individuals with both acute and chronic renal conditions, as well as those who have suffered strokes or have other neurological disorders. We pride ourselves on our collaborative approach, engaging a multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, dietitians, and discharge planners to ensure the delivery of safe and high-quality care.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse in this unit, your primary responsibility will be to implement the nursing process for patients facing complex medical challenges related to renal health and neurological conditions, such as end-stage renal disease, peritoneal dialysis, and acute strokes. You will be accountable for all aspects of patient care, which includes assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care tailored to individual patient needs. Additionally, you will coordinate care to facilitate patient transitions through the healthcare continuum, educate patients and their families, and enhance customer satisfaction.

  • Valid registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification approved by Heart & Stroke.
  • Preferred experience in acute inpatient medicine.
  • Certification in Peritoneal Dialysis.
  • Experience in neurology and/or nephrology settings is an asset.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Proficient in aseptic techniques, suctioning, wound care, and IV insertion.
  • Experience in medication administration is essential.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Strong teamwork and public relations skills.
  • Compassionate demeanor towards patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Capability to meet the physical demands of the role.
  • A solid employment and attendance record is required.

Additional Information

Work Schedule: Rotating 12-hour shifts, Monday through Sunday, with hours subject to operational requirements.

Compensation: Competitive hourly wage.
