Licensed Practical Nurse

The 5C Nephro/Neuro unit is a 36-bed medical facility designed to accommodate patients requiring specialized care. This unit is equipped with renal dialysis facilities to provide in-room dialysis treatment as necessary. Our patient demographic includes individuals with both acute and chronic renal conditions, as well as those who have suffered strokes or have other neurological disorders. We operate with a collaborative multi-disciplinary team comprising physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, dietitians, and discharge planners to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality care tailored to our patients' needs.
Key Responsibilities
A Licensed Practical Nurse in this unit will be primarily tasked with implementing the nursing process for patients facing complex medical challenges related to renal and neurological issues, including end-stage renal disease and acute strokes. Responsibilities include:
- Conducting thorough assessments, planning, executing, and evaluating patient care based on specific health requirements.
- Coordinating care to facilitate smooth transitions throughout the healthcare continuum.
- Providing education to patients and their families to enhance understanding and satisfaction.
- Administering medications and performing procedures in accordance with established protocols.
- Documenting patient observations, assessments, and any changes in condition.
- Collaborating with healthcare team members to promote positive patient outcomes.
Qualifications

- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification approved by Heart & Stroke.
- Preferred experience in acute inpatient medicine.
- Certification in Peritoneal Dialysis.
- Experience in neurology and/or nephrology settings is advantageous.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Skills in aseptic technique, suctioning, wound care, and IV insertion.
- Experience with medication administration.
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- A compassionate approach towards patients, families, and colleagues.
- Physical capability to meet the demands of the role.
- A satisfactory record of employment and attendance.
Additional Information
Work Schedule: Rotating 12-hour shifts, Monday through Sunday, subject to operational needs.
Compensation: $35.97 per hour.
