BA Blacktop Ltd. is actively seeking a dedicated and motivated individual to fulfill the role of Superintendent, Project.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Project Superintendent plays a crucial role in orchestrating, scheduling, and overseeing construction activities. This position ensures that projects are executed in alignment with the company's safety protocols, contractual obligations, budgetary constraints, and the client's construction timeline, while adhering to the established plans and specifications.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety Management

Possess comprehensive knowledge of WorkSafeBC Regulations.Prepare and submit Notice of Project.Actively engage in Pre-Job Hazard Assessments and First Aid Assessments in collaboration with the Safety Department.Contribute to the formulation of Safety procedures for specific job tasks in conjunction with the Safety Department.Conduct monthly safety inspections.Review and validate project safety documentation (inspections, daily work plans).Identify and communicate potential hazards to foremen and crews.Ensure compliance with safety protocols as outlined by the Prime Contractor, BA OH&S manual, and Work Safe regulations.Guarantee that all operations are conducted safely, considering risks and potential liabilities.Ensure all personnel and subcontractors complete project orientation prior to commencing work.Maintain cleanliness and safety at work sites.Thoroughly investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses.Verify the upkeep and cleanliness of vehicles and equipment.

Project Oversight Responsibilities

Examine contract documents, scope of work, drawings, and specifications before initiating a new job site.Review project bid documents and budget in detail with the estimator and/or project manager, and assist in job cost code setup.Participate in bid handover discussions.Engage in pre-construction meetings.Provide necessary information to foremen (Work Order, Drawings, Cost codes, schedule, etc.).Optimize and schedule project resources (manpower, equipment, and subcontractors) in collaboration with the Construction Manager.Coordinate with Milling and Concrete Superintendents to schedule crews promptly.Plan asphalt paving requirements, including mix type, quantities, timelines, and production rates with the Construction Manager.Schedule, coordinate, and negotiate with subcontractors and material suppliers.Ensure BC 1 Call as-built and necessary permits are secured.Direct and manage construction operations, methods, techniques, and overall project planning.Implement and monitor Safety Management, Traffic Management, Quality Management, and Environmental Management Plans.Maintain clear and consistent communication with clients, documenting all communications through meeting minutes, emails, and notes.Participate in weekly project meetings with the Project Manager to review schedules, resources, costs versus budget, and optimization strategies.Review, verify, and adjust daily, weekly, and monthly job costs in Kheops.Discuss Extra Works, Change Orders, and Force Account Works with clients early and document prior to execution.Prepare monthly project billing in collaboration with Project Managers, ensuring accuracy before submission.Submit all monthly invoices promptly.Review, correct, and approve invoices from suppliers and subcontractors.

Planning and Coordination

Communicate and implement the project schedule with foremen and subcontractors.Lead and provide daily instructions to site foremen.Organize site requirements, including trucks, equipment, materials, and subcontractors, in close collaboration with the site foreman.Develop and maintain a project schedule, including a 3-week look-ahead.Monitor work progress to ensure deadlines are met.

Quality Assurance

Ensure adherence to the quality control plan.Schedule Quality Control Testing as per project requirements.Verify that quality standards are met.Address and rectify deficiencies promptly.Report all deficiencies through the NCR process.

Training and Development

Lead, monitor, and develop site foremen and crew members.Ensure workers receive appropriate training before undertaking specific tasks (fall protection, confined space, rigging, traffic control, etc.).Conduct bi-annual performance evaluations for all direct reports.

Equipment Oversight

Coordinate equipment needs with the Construction Manager.Communicate equipment issues and breakdowns to the equipment department.

Documentation and Reporting

Review, update, and validate Daily Quantity Reports (DQR) and Extra Work Orders (EWO) daily.Review and integrate foreman paperwork and daily timesheets in Kheops within 48 hours.Review and sign foremen's daily work plans and monthly safety inspections.Maintain daily logs of work site activities, conversations, issues, and specific instructions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential Qualifications

Strong knowledge of road construction activities and specifications (MoTI, MMCD, municipal specifications, and Traffic Control Management).Good understanding of Contract Documents.Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and goal-driven individual.Excellent leadership and communication skills.Strong interpersonal skills with clients and the public.Organized and prepared, with a proactive approach.Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.Proficient in reading and interpreting site plans/blueprints.Ability to organize all field aspects necessary for job completion.Good computer skills, including Excel, Word, Outlook, MS Project, Kheops, and Bluebeam.Ability to measure and verify quantities accurately.A passion for learning and teaching, striving for excellence in team performance.

Desirable Qualifications

Completion of Public Works Course (BCIT).Construction Management Courses.Civil Engineering Diploma/Degree.Registration with ASTTBC.Safety certifications: Confined Space Entry and Rescue, Fall Protection, Hoisting & Rigging, Utility Locating Using M-scopes, Traffic Control.
