Position Summary

This role, under the supervision of a Nurse, involves providing essential support and assistance with daily living activities and quality care for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Responsibilities include: assisting with feeding, toileting, and mobility, conducting visual observations, monitoring and documenting vital signs, implementing care plans, ensuring safety and well-being, and performing other related tasks. The State covers tuition expenses for Certified Nursing Assistant training at an approved institution.

Key Responsibilities

The following are core responsibilities common to all positions in this classification and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties for any one position: Attend mandatory training sessions covering facility policies, nursing methods, and safety protocols. Gain practical experience by observing and assisting professional nursing staff. Monitor and document temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and nutritional intake/output, alerting professional staff to any significant irregularities. Implement prescribed treatment plans that may include reality orientation, sensory stimulation, and range of motion exercises. Observe individual activities and report any unusual or hazardous behaviors. Supervise individuals within the facility to ensure appropriate location and security. Accompany individuals to social, recreational, and medical appointments. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to provide insights about the individual's overall health and behavior. Apply interventions to prevent or de-escalate inappropriate behaviors. Assist individuals with personal hygiene tasks. Maintain sanitary conditions in individual surroundings, including proper care and storage of linens and clothing.

Qualifications

Requirements for Nursing Assistant

Candidates must demonstrate education, training, and/or experience in the following areas: A minimum of six months of experience applying relevant laws, regulations, and policies. Knowledge of nursing procedures, including monitoring vital signs and nutritional intake/output. Proficiency in narrative report writing.
