Position Summary

This role, under the supervision of a registered nurse, involves providing essential support and assistance with daily living activities and quality care for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Responsibilities include: assisting with feeding, toileting, and mobility, conducting visual assessments, monitoring and documenting vital signs, implementing care plans, ensuring safety and well-being, and performing other related tasks. The State also covers tuition costs for CNA training at approved educational facilities.

Key Responsibilities

The following functions are essential and represent core duties common to all positions within this classification. This list is not exhaustive, and incumbents may perform similar duties not specifically mentioned here. Attend mandatory training sessions covering facility policies, nursing support techniques, and safety protocols. Gain practical experience by observing and assisting professional nursing staff. Monitor and document vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure, while reporting any significant changes to the nursing staff. Implement prescribed treatment plans that may include reality orientation, sensory stimulation, and mobility exercises. Observe individual behaviors and report any unusual or hazardous activities. Supervise individuals within the facility to ensure their safety and security. Accompany individuals to social and recreational activities as well as medical appointments. Collaborate with an interdisciplinary care team to provide insights regarding the individual's health status and behavioral traits. Apply appropriate interventions to manage or de-escalate challenging behaviors. Assist individuals with personal hygiene tasks. Maintain a clean and sanitary environment, ensuring proper infection control and care of linens and clothing.

Qualifications

Requirements for Nursing Assistant Position

Candidates must demonstrate education, training, and/or experience in the following areas: A minimum of six months of experience in applying relevant laws, regulations, and standards. Familiarity with nursing procedures, including the monitoring and documentation of vital signs. Proficiency in writing narrative reports.
