Job Overview

Reporting to the Field Operations Manager, the Senior Superintendent plays a pivotal role in coordinating and overseeing site activities to ensure successful project execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and uphold the Magil safety program, fostering a culture of safety on-site through mentorship and exemplary behavior.
  • Assist project teams in overcoming scheduling challenges and contribute to the formulation and execution of recovery strategies.
  • Monitor project advancement, ensuring adherence to performance, productivity, quality, and safety standards.
  • Serve as a liaison between clients, consultants, and trades when site team escalations are necessary.
  • Guide, instruct, and mentor project teams across multiple locations.
  • Collaborate with teams to visualize the overall project, identify critical paths in the schedule, foresee constructability challenges, and integrate solutions into construction plans and timelines.
  • Partner with the Site Superintendent and project management to craft and implement a comprehensive Project Execution Plan.
  • Ensure effective scheduling, coordination, and cost management related to project labor, equipment, and materials by site personnel.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and seek innovative construction methodologies and initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Journeyman certificate or a post-secondary diploma/degree in a relevant field.
  • Over 20 years of progressive experience in field supervision is preferred.
  • Eligibility for project security clearances.

Competencies

  • Ability to review and comprehend contracts and subcontracts, assisting project teams in identifying and mitigating risks while maximizing opportunities to achieve financial objectives.
  • Proficient in understanding project scope and applying complex engineering principles to construction challenges, embedding solutions into plans and schedules.
  • Capable of conducting value engineering and defining scope and limitations for project pursuits.
  • Strong grasp of contract language, with the ability to identify and mitigate risks while leveraging opportunities.
  • Extensive knowledge of safety and environmental principles, procedures, and legislation, with demonstrated experience in fostering a robust safety culture.
  • Ability to mentor field staff effectively and lead site meetings with clients, consultants, trades, and internal teams.
  • Skilled in presenting at client meetings or during project pursuit efforts.
  • Expert in managing general project requirements and effectively communicating this expertise to field staff.

Experience

  • Proven experience in scheduling, monitoring, and mentoring others in resource forecasting.
  • Capability to manage field staff across multiple projects, ensuring coordination of all scopes.
  • In-depth knowledge of the construction industry and company operations, including building materials, specifications, methods, and procedures.
  • Experience in addressing grievance and employee relations issues.
