Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Head of Mine Planning and Capital Projects, the Mining Projects Engineer will be instrumental in developing Preliminary Feasibility Studies (PFS) for our underground mining operations. The role involves not only the creation of PFS but also the active support of long-term mining strategies, including five-year and one-year operational plans.

As a vital member of the Mine Planning Team, the Mining Projects Engineer will operate on a Monday to Friday schedule at the Calgary Corporate Office, with occasional site visits required. The successful candidate will be a key contributor to the Mine Planning team, serving as the primary point of contact for PFS development related to our underground mining activities.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Exemplifying strong safety leadership in daily operations;
  2. Executing all tasks in alignment with corporate values and mission;
  3. Formulating PFS for underground mining initiatives;
  4. Collaborating effectively with external technical consultants and contractors;
  5. Assisting in the development of life-of-mine plans, as well as long-range and short-term mining strategies;
  6. Coordinating regular meetings to provide updates on PFS development to stakeholders;
  7. Establishing efficient water management protocols;
  8. Designing optimized underground mine layouts, including essential infrastructure;
  9. Offering ventilation engineering expertise, including simulations and network designs;
  10. Conducting field assessments to ensure compliance with plans and safety standards;
  11. Completing monthly reporting and actuals as necessary;
  12. Contributing to the development of Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP);
  13. Mentoring and coaching junior team members;
  14. Providing technical insights on geotechnical monitoring and support systems;
  15. Maintaining strong relationships with contractors.

Qualifications

  1. A degree in Mining Engineering with approximately 10 years of experience in underground mining or technical consulting, with supervisory or mentorship experience being a plus. Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Canada is required, preferably in the Northwest Territories;
  2. PMP certification or relevant experience in project management and scheduling is essential;
  3. Hands-on experience in sub-level caving and block caving methodologies;
  4. Experience in capital forecasting and economic modeling;
  5. Demonstrated expertise in mine design, scheduling, ventilation design, and drill & blast operations;
  6. Proficiency in Deswik is mandatory; familiarity with other software such as MS Office Suite, Ventsim, AutoCAD, or Vulcan is beneficial;
  7. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills;
  8. Leadership and organizational capabilities;
  9. Knowledge of mining safety regulations and practices;
  10. Effective time management and decision-making abilities;
  11. Familiarity with SAP is an asset;
  12. Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively to enhance efficiency and productivity;
  13. A valid Class 5 driver's license is required;
  14. Experience in the mining sector, particularly in northern Canada, along with an understanding of the local regulatory landscape is preferred.
