Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Head of Mine Planning and Capital Projects, the Mining Projects Engineer will be instrumental in developing Preliminary Feasibility Studies (PFS) for our underground mining operations. The role also involves contributing to long-term mine strategies, including five-year and one-year operational plans for Burgundy's underground projects.

As a member of the Mine Planning Team, the Mining Projects Engineer will work a standard Monday to Friday schedule at the Calgary Corporate Office, with occasional site visits required. The successful candidate will be a key player in the Mine Planning team, acting as the primary contact for PFS development related to our underground mining initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Upholding Felt Safety Leadership in all daily activities;
  2. Performing all tasks in alignment with corporate values and standards;
  3. Developing PFS for underground mining projects;
  4. Collaborating effectively with external technical consultants and contractors;
  5. Assisting in the formulation of life of mine, long-range, five-year, and one-year plans;
  6. Leading weekly and monthly meetings to provide updates on PFS development to stakeholders;
  7. Establishing efficient water management systems;
  8. Designing risk-assessed and optimized underground mine layouts, including ramps, raises, and essential service infrastructures;
  9. Offering ventilation engineering support, including simulations and network designs;
  10. Conducting regular field assessments to ensure compliance with plans and safety standards;
  11. Completing monthly actuals and corporate reporting as necessary;
  12. Assisting in the creation of Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP);
  13. Mentoring and coaching junior staff members;
  14. Providing technical guidance on geotechnical monitoring, ground support systems, and developing support plans for underground operations;
  15. Maintaining and enhancing relationships between the company and contractors.

Qualifications

  1. A degree in Mining Engineering with approximately 10 years of experience in underground mining operations or technical consulting. Experience in supervisory or mentorship roles is a plus. Must hold a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation in Canada, preferably in the Northwest Territories;
  2. PMP certification or experience in project scheduling and execution is essential;
  3. Practical experience in sub-level caving and block caving mining methods;
  4. Experience in capital forecasting, financial modeling, and economic analysis;
  5. Proven expertise in various domains including mine design, scheduling, ventilation design, and drill & blast operations;
  6. Proficiency in Deswik is mandatory; familiarity with other relevant software (e.g., MS Office Suite, Ventsim, AutoCAD, or Vulcan) is advantageous;
  7. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities;
  8. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills in English;
  9. Leadership, planning, and organizational skills;
  10. Knowledge of mining safety regulations and procedures;
  11. Proven time management and decision-making abilities;
  12. Familiarity with SAP is an asset;
  13. Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively to achieve optimal efficiency and productivity;
  14. A valid Class 5 driver's license is required;
  15. Experience in the mining sector, particularly in northern Canada, and an understanding of the northern regulatory landscape is preferred.
