Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Psychologist Assistant to join our team at PHSA. As a Psychologist Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting our Forensic Psychologists in the assessment and treatment of individuals with complex mental health and substance use challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and score standardized psychological assessments, including self-report inventories, neuropsychological screening batteries, and specialized forensic assessment measures.
  • Provide detailed written descriptions of client behavior during testing, including observations of affect, motivation, and any evidence of perceptual disturbances or bizarre behavior.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate and comprehensive records, reports, and charts, including test results and observations.
  • Participate in educational meetings, staff meetings, and treatment team conferences to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Contribute to research activities, including literature reviews, research applications, and funding submissions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.
  • Recognized training and/or experience in administering a wide variety of psychodiagnostic tests.
  • Specialized academic course and experience in forensic psychology, including risk assessment and risk management.
  • Valid BC Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • General knowledge at the undergraduate level on psychological testing and psychopathology, especially in the context of the criminal justice system.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate well with others and with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events, problem-solve, and effectively deal with conflict situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Ability to operate related equipment, including basic knowledge of computer software.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Commitment to developing knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments, including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, In Plain Sight, and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
