TRAINING OPPORTUNITY
Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking to recruit Health Care Support Workers through the Health Career Access Program (HCAP). Successful candidates will have the opportunity to complete a training program that qualifies them to register as a Care Aide with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry. Candidates who accept this training commitment agree to serve as regular Care Aides with Vancouver Coastal Health for a duration of 12 months following graduation.
SALARY
The compensation for this role is CAD $24.80 per hour.
JOB SUMMARY
Become a Health Care Support Worker and obtain your Care Aide registration with Vancouver Coastal Health.
Vancouver Coastal Health is looking to recruit Health Care Support Workers through the Health Career Access Program (HCAP). Upon successful completion of the training, candidates will be eligible to register as a Care Aide with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry.
The Community Health (HCAP Home Support) program requires a commitment of approximately 1.5 years. Candidates are expected to be available for 37.5 hours each week, including mornings, evenings, and weekends throughout the program. Additionally, candidates may work as health care support workers for up to 12 days prior to commencing their training. The educational component of the program typically spans eight months. Following graduation, employees must adhere to the Return of Service Agreement for a period of 12 months.
Funding will cover 100% of wages, tuition, and books during the training program.
As an applicant for this position, you will be considered for placements at Home Support sites across Vancouver Coastal Health for various cohorts. Assignments will be based on seat availability.
As a Health Care Support Worker at Vancouver Coastal Health, your responsibilities will include:
- Working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or another regulated healthcare professional.
- Providing a range of non-direct and/or non-clinical healthcare support to clients, residents, families, and/or visitors in long-term care, assisted living, and home environments, in accordance with established care plans and safety protocols.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- Proof of completion of Grade 10 (or equivalent).
- For applicants with three years of full-time instruction in English: completion of English 10 or equivalent. For those with less than three years of full-time instruction in English: a standardized English language proficiency test score may be required. If English is not your first language, an English test may be necessary.
- A valid BC Driver's License is required. Local travel necessitates the use of a personal vehicle (specific regions only).
KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interact positively with others.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Physical capability to perform the duties of the position.
- Ability to operate relevant equipment.
CLOSING STATEMENT
The work schedule, including days off and work locations, may be subject to change based on operational needs and the provisions of the Collective Agreement and applicable laws. Successful candidates may be required to undergo a Criminal Records Review Check.
In accordance with current Public Health Orders, all employees of Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or have received a single dose of the most recent COVID-19 vaccine. Proof of vaccination status will be necessary.
