Position Overview

As a Seafood Processing Specialist at Sea Star Seafoods Limited, you will be responsible for the meticulous handling and preparation of fish and seafood products. This role requires a strong attention to detail and the ability to work in a physically demanding environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preparation: Cut, clean, and trim fish or seafood before it is marketed or further processed.
  • Filleting: Scrape away scales, separate fillets, and remove unwanted parts using a knife.
  • Transportation: Move fish and shellfish to designated work areas efficiently.
  • Conditioning: Prepare fish filets for wrapping or freezing.
  • Quality Control: Inspect products and packaging for defects, ensuring compliance with company standards.
  • Machine Operation: Set up and operate packaging machines for fish and seafood products.
  • Weight Management: Weigh fish or shellfish, document weights, and pack fish in ice.
  • Sanitation: Maintain cleanliness of machines and work areas.
  • Ingredient Management: Measure and add ingredients into mixing and grinding machines.
  • Sorting: Organize fish based on species, weight, and intended destination.
Work Environment

The work site may present various conditions including:

  • Odours
  • Cold and refrigerated areas
  • Wet and damp environments
  • Outdoor settings
Physical Requirements

This position involves:

  • Repetitive tasks
  • Handling heavy loads (up to 23 kg or 50 lbs)
  • Physically demanding activities
  • Prolonged standing, bending, crouching, and kneeling
  • Overtime as needed
Qualifications

No formal education is required, and training will be provided. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
